I went to only one Grateful Dead show. It was such a perfect experience that despite having chances to go again, and despite trying to prolong that perfect Dead-space by driving around in my '80 Sirocco and listening only to bogarted tapes from some Red Rocks concert that I didn’t even attend, I never went to another. It was at SPAC, this natural outdoor amphitheater a few miles outside of the bucolic town of Saratoga, and I had gone with this other boyfriend and a few friends. We’d all piled in someone’s car, and we’d all dropped acid, everyone except whoever it was who was…

Oh, Dr Who. You showed such promise with the creation of Dr River Song. Whatever happened? Whither the love for the single, childless, middle-aged woman? I realize that I react as a single, childless, middle-aged woman myself, and that my reactions to your most recent episode, “The Girl Who Waited,” speak as much about you as they do about me; my anxieties; my nightmares; my things that, while silent, go bump in the night. And yet, even as I recognize that I view this episode through my own “Rory-cam,” that is to say lenses that show you what you cannot see and what I can, I cannot…

I don’t remember when I started following Kim Boekbinder, The Artist Also Known as The Impossible Girl (or TAAKaTIG, for brevity), but I do remember when she first responded to one of my Tweets. I posted a picture of myself in her “Kim Boekbinder believes in me” t-shirt with commentary along the lines that I wear it whenever I feel immersed in a pit of self-doubt. Kim said, “So all the time, basically.” Yup, pretty much, I wrote back. I’m not one of those people who believes that everything happens for a reason. I’m more of one of those people who believes that everything…

It’s gratifying to know that people are visiting your place online. With the WordPress.com front page evolving into a one-stop shop for posting, exploring, following and reading blogs, it seemed natural to put your blog stats there, too.  Stats are becoming more and more about interacting with your readers and other bloggers. The Virginity Project
    25 Jan 2012 | 10:29 am
I don’t do much of this these days. For one thing, the people in my book have already made a wonderful contribution and for another, it’s a big ask BUT……this is a little bit different because this media request is for British Marie Claire, one of the most respected women’s monthlies in the known universe. Marie Claire is looking for women (and men) who are still in touch with the person they lost their virginity to appear in an intelligent feature about how our 'first time' affects our future ideas about love and sex. Needless to say, Marie Claire is committed to…

How to Lose Your Virginity: Hymen Marketplace from Trixie Films on Vimeo. As if to re-inforce last week's post, here is a clip from Therese Shechter's upcoming film, 'How To Lose Your Virginity'. This makes me want to shake with laughter and weep tears of frustration at the same time. To quote Adios Barbie, 'hymens tell as accurate a story about a woman’s sexual history as the tip of a man’s penis tells about his. That is, no story at all'. One does get the feeling that if the tables turned and men were the one's who were judged for the tips of their…

A different day for the Virginity Project. Number 1, this is the first story I have ever received from Guatemala – tech-heads, do you think there is an app of the world somewhere that I could attach to the side of my blog that would block a country out every time I got a story from a new place? And number 2, I am not featuring a cheerful story today. One feels one should stick with the positive but really, life isn’t always like that and would I be helping anyone by selling the idea that it is? A reader wrote to me recently and said that all my stories seemed quite positive and that his…

I was tidying up the hard drive on my laptop the other day, as one is wont to do at this time of year, when I came across a document I had completely forgotten about. I had titled it ‘the virgin diaries’ and it is a diary that begins right after I first had the idea for my book. Back when this blog wasn’t even a twinkle in my eye. For some reason, and as you will see, I had got it into my head that I couldn’t tell a single living soul about my book writing plans at work. Because otherwise they would sack me. They wouldn’t, but try telling me that at the time. I was quite possessed…

It’s a wonderful town if you’ve got something good going on in your life but it’s a potential sprawling pool of loneliness if you don’t. The Virginity Project is having a high old time of it at the moment but for those who aren’t, take heart, nice things do happen, and often when you least expect them. A while back, I pondered on the idea of ‘love’ and what that meant for people. I was…

Dear Henry, You’re two months old! How on earth did this happen? I can’t believe how much you’ve changed in the past few weeks. Sometimes, when you’re asleep, I look through pictures at you on my phone and marvel at all these changes. You’re not a teensy baby anymore. You smile ALL the time and it’s just the best thing ever. I’m super excited to see how much he weighs (the super scientific bathroom scale method says 13ish pounds) and how long he is. UPDATE: Shots happened. OH MY. Poor little guy. Henry, who was 11 and a half pounds at his last weigh-in, is seen here in the outfit that I brought for him to wear home from the hospital (IT WAS LABELED NEWBORN). (He’s thinking, “Cool it with the giraffes, Mom.”) And, here he is partially seen in the OTHER outfit I brought for him to wear home from the hospital. Let me say that I’m REALLY GLAD that neither option fit as that would have made for a difficult delivery. Basically, if there’s every a Baby on Board v2, I’ll be sure to bring an ACTUAL newborn outfit.

Sure, he falls asleep while nursing or in the Ergo, but the second I try to lay him ever so gently into his Pack and Play, his eyes bolt open. Sometimes, he even smiles at me, which makes it impossible to leave him there. But! He has to nap. Other people’s babies nap. Their babies nap, they have clean houses and time to style their hair. I am from a country where dating is taboo. I was not in a relationship till my early twenties. The following may be hard to understand but I need to talk about it and know why I let this happen to me. It was my first relationship and I had little idea what to expect. Things were fine till my bf learned another man was interested in me and I might be interested in him too. That was the first time he told me he loved me and wanted to marry me. A torrent of emotional abuse followed. He started to tell me things like I was fat (I was not...I was 5'3 and 113 pounds) and not as pretty as his exes.

In Lebanon (or at least, in Beirut) the joke is that it is equally likely to see a woman in a mini skirt as it is to see a woman in a hijab. In Lebanon (or at least, in Beirut), European tourists feel at ease that the Lebanese still speak a post-colonial French, and let Beirut be called the Paris of the Middle East. In Lebanon (or at least, in Beirut), tourists and Lebanese alike flock to the beaches and the nightclubs, openly drinking alcohol, smoking hookahs, and belly dancing to both popular western and Arabic music, creating a strange moment that many see as cultural influence, and many…

(This post contains candid discussion of rape and sexual violence.) As some of you may know, I experienced two different sexual assaults when I wasn't yet in my teens within just one year of one another. The second time I was assaulted, my experience ticked all of the boxes there currently are in our culture for what is so often -- now, anyway, easily considered a "real" or "bonafide" sexual assault, or what Whoopi Goldberg, to my great disappointment, would call "rape-rape." I was a girl, and one with body parts universally recognized as "girl parts." My attackers were guys. Even worse when…

  • The Penis Roller Coaster

    25 Jan 2012 | 6:01 pm
Construction metaphors figure prominently in iconic images of erections. Tall objects built on a flat plane, penetrating the sky, standing firm and tall, immoveable and awe inspiring in their stand-out-ness, their pokey-tude. But real erections aren't constructed from raw materials, they aren't built so much as they are evoked. And the analogy with construction falls apart completely when you consider that no one has complete control over their erections, and erections can disappear as easily as they arise. A roller coaster car might be a more apt metaphor. One of the few things we can say…
  • Calling for Better Care: New Recommendations for Sex and Heart Health

    23 Jan 2012 | 6:01 pm
In the past, if you had a stroke, a heart attack, or a more minor event that led to a diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and you asked your doctor about your options for having sex, the response wouldn't be very encouraging. Something along the lines of it being better safe than sorry, so why not wait. How long you had to wait, and exactly what you had to wait to do was never clear. But there wasn't much research to guide doctors, and in a society where sex is seen more as a perk and privilege of youth, the prudent advice was to be grateful you're alive, and not push it. Over the past few…

A new film, The Surrogate, has it's first screening on Monday at the Sundance Film Festival. According to the description of the film in the festival program, it's based on the writings of Mark O'Brien. O'Brien was a journalist and poet who wrote frankly and vividly about his life, most of which was spent inside an iron lung. One of his most shared pieces of journalism was an article he wrote about seeing a sexual surrogate. That article used to be available for free online but unfortunately it seems to have disappeared. Apparently this film is about the relationship between Mark and the…

It may be hard to imagine sex without moving, but sometimes it's the moving that makes it hard to imagine ever having sex. This week instead of answering one sex question in particular I took inspiration from about a half dozen questions I've received over the past year all about whether or not it's "normal" for your sex life to slow down after you move in with a partner. Of course "normal" is code, and in this case I think it's code for a few things: predictable, okay, understandable, something to worry about. I tried to write a response using as little code as possible, and to offer some…

Recently, BR reader Magnolia shared a lengthy quote on lying from which the first line stuck out for me“As soon as there is any kind of deception, stop everything.” (source: Boundaries in Dating) Experience has taught me and so many others, that when you’re eager to date at any cost, you don’t trust yourself, and you’re actually willing to participate in an unhealthy relationship, you don’t stop everything – you continue. What this immediately communicates is that you’re very receptive to lies, which may shock you if you consider yourself to be…

When I was a product design student, I learned through theory and experience that it’s better to recognise mistakes, which are actually opportunities for change, or even ‘failure’, which although it’s a lack of success, it at the same time also represents another opportunity for change. Recognising when something isn’t working and applying that knowledge was better than deciding “I am a product designer and anything I make is right and must work.” If you’ve ever watched something like Dragon’s Den, a British show where entrepreneurs pitch…

While cooking dinner the other night, I had one of those random "aha!" moments – totally out of the blue and potentially life changing. Image: Bosom Button http://www.bosombutton.com/Not a product I've ever had the fortune to need. But the image reminds me of Cleavage. I think it started after I had an enjoyable chat on the phone with my friend, Cleavage. Cleavage and I met quite a few years ago -- actually the last time I set myself on a friend-making mission. Back then I was not a gimp, so I chose tennis (instead of beer) as my hobby (and the gut's showing it, believe me) and joined…

Here's what happened on my visit with Beer Guy last weekend. I went into it with friendship as my expectation-- and a dash of potential for something more. By the time I entered his home and set the chips and salsa I brought down on the kitchen counter, I knew this would be a relationship with no extra spice. After giving me a friendly hug, the first words out of his mouth were, "The reason I disappeared for a few months was because I got pretty hot and heavy with someone soon after we met." That much I'd figured. Then he added, "But she broke up with me on New Year's Eve." Ah. I…

While 2011 had its low points, the year was a significant improvement from 2010. In addition to exiting a relationship that was running on fumes, I accomplished most of the goals I set for myself, including: 1. Building up a solid archive of published feature stories to advance my freelance writing career (I published one or more story every month, and talked to some incredible talent in the process). 2. Finally began healing after four years of pain and suffering; while I am not exactly where I'd hoped (and probably never will be), I'm at peace with my state of being and am embracing what I…

    31 Dec 2011 | 7:24 pm
It's a quiet late afternoon on New Year's Eve. I've spent the day much as I've spent the majority of this holiday break, by myself with little to do but take my dog for a walk, watch a movie, nap, tidy up and check Facebook. Much of the time it feels like heaven. But sometimes it feels like hell. While my New Year's Eve plans feel entirely acceptable to me, I realize that many of you will think me pathetic. Trust me, I sought out other options first -- even ones that didn't seem all that appealing. But my friends who are in town and without children either already had plans or just felt like…

One of my dearest friends, a happily married Veteran friends with five (!) children, sent me this article from The Guardian that was shared with her by another of her late 30s, single friends whose romantic life has eerily echoed mine since we first met in our early 20s. Writer Kate Bolick Photo: Mike McGregor, the Observer It's a loooooong article on the sociology of singledom by Kate Bolick and I pretty much skimmed over the statistic-heavy paragraphs (numbers are not my strong suit). But overall it was an interesting read, if only to hear the voice of someone else in my same situation. It…

Reality Check: You don't have to be a portion control freak to lose weight The problem with announcing to your pals or the blogosphere that you are planning to lose weight is that you get a lot of stuff about how women shouldn't strive to be a size zero and all that gumpf. But when you say you want to lose weight mainly for health not vanity no one wants to hear it. So I just kept it buttoned and lost the weight. The fact is that I was overweight and now since I have lost fifteen pounds I feel a lot better and I am certainly nowhere near fitting into Posh's jeans. But the upside of…

Usually the lovely Multiple Mum hosts the Weekend Rewind - but this week I'm kicking back, pouring you all peppermint martinis and inviting you to rewind back in time with me. How do you do that you may well ask? Well, first I offer you a theme. Yes, this week's theme is cooking. Now, admit it. We all do it or at least try to. We've read books about it, we've watched TV programs about it and many of us are obsessed with it. It should come naturally, as it was to our cavemen ancestors who did it effortlessly, club in hand and…

As this alcoholic squirrel will testify - The desire to change may be strong but the flesh is sometimes weak New Year’s Resolutions. You’ve gotta love ‘em haven’t you? They’re basically just another opportunity for us to set ourselves up to fail, one more reason for us to hate ourselves. I have in the past made New Year’s resolutions that I’ve actually kept, like in 2008 when I resolved to read 100 books in the year. I made it to 104 in the end, although that did include quite a few very slim volumes, and a few Nancy Drew books. It definitely counts though, Nancy Drew gets…

It is a funny old life, being an expat. I suppose when you tell people you are an expat it gives the impression that you have chosen a life of fun, excitement and adventure by choosing to wear the expat hat, when in some (namely my own) cases you were simply offered an opportunity to leave your country of birth and hopefully ended up somewhere better. I came to Baltimore, USA eleven years ago without much of a clue as to where I was moving to. The locals told me 'Baltimore grows on you' which sounded much like an unwanted wart on the sole of my foot! But I have to say…

  • Is my Mirena IUD affecting my periods?

    Lil'Miss B
    4 Jan 2012 | 9:41 pm
Q: Just a year ago I got a Mirena IUD. For the first few months I didn’t really get my period, there was occasional spotting. In the past month I have started to get a more regular spotting. It’s like a super light period. I dont know if I should be concerned. Please help! A: From what you are describing it would appear that your IUD is performing as it is intended. The Mirena IUD releases hormones into your uterus that are designed to reduce the amount of bleeding during a woman’s menstrual period in addition to preventing pregnancy. The reduction may not be 100%. If you…
  • How can anal sex and ass-to-mouth be safe?

Q: I have seen in pornos that people have condom-less anal sex and condom-less ass to mouth. I was wondering if you knew what they did to ensure the cleanness of that area on the inside? A: First off, pretty much anything you see in porno is an exaggerated sex practice. The performers are taking certain risks, which they understand going in to the scenes. Porn performers are required to know and be able to prove their STD status at all times. To answer the broader question we can give you some information about cleanliness and risks of anal sex and ass to mouth play of any kind (ass to mouth…

Q: My boyfriend always asks me if I feel him cum. I can’t feel it. I can tell when he cums from his physical change or sounds he makes but I can’t feel anything inside me. Is this unusual that I can’t feel anything? When reading porn, it makes you thing that you should be able to feel it. But hey, how true is that? A: It’s common that women don’t feel their partner ejaculating inside of them; many other women report this. While there are nerve endings in the vagina, most are close to the vaginal entrance rather than deeper inside. Many women do report that they…

When he wants sex, which is almost everyday, I’m not as thrilled cause he’s a quick cummer. I try to boost my energy so we can try but I don’t get turned on by just seeing naked people. Q: My penis has too much girth. Erect, it’s a little less than 6 inches in circumference, but none of my girlfriends has ever been comfortable with it. Especially now that my current partner has had menopause. I’m wondering if there’s a special condom that restricts circumference but not length. I expect not, but perhaps there’s something else to do about it. Nothing gruesome, most of the time I like it the way it is. A: Even if your penis is too thick to be comfortable for your partners at first, there are indeed things you can do to make sex more comfortable which…

    Sex, Etc.
    25 Jan 2012 | 4:48 pm
GAMBIT Game Lab created a prototype of a video game called, A Closed World. The game was created in response to the lack of LGBTQ related material in the video game world. In this game, the player is in control of a character who explores a forest that is known to have demons lurking in it. In order to overcome the difficulties of having a “prohibited relationship,” your character must battle the demons. The demons attack by forcing their beliefs on you, and you fight back by defying their views on love and the “ideal” relationship. Your only weapons are logic, passion, ethics and…
  • Gay Men Don’t Get Fat

    18 Jan 2012 | 5:22 pm
Photo by Henry Hargreaves Recently The New York Times interviewed Simon Doonan, a major player in the fashion industry, about his new book Gay Men Don’t Get Fat. In the book, Doonan, a gay man, uses humor to talk about sexual orientation and food. In Doonan’s world, there are two clear categories of food: straight and gay. This idea made his interview over lunch with a New York Times writer very funny. Doonan was critical of his interviewer for getting a panini loaded with meat and cheese, because this kind of food is typical of the way Doonan says heterosexual men eat. Doonan’s…

The mother says that they “tried the ‘pink thing’,” but that her daughter insisted on more traditionally masculine clothes. When the daughter’s clothes are saved from crayon stains by Tide Booster, the mother’s reaction is “…it’s kinda too bad.” And when she asks her daughter, “playing another parking garage, honey?” her praise…
  • Does This Pose Make Me Look Absurd?

    Sex, Etc.
    4 Jan 2012 | 1:17 pm
Most of us are aware of how fashion magazines and lipstick commercials too often depict women: We’re reduced to overly sexualized, dolled-up mannequins in skimpy clothes and lots of makeup. And the result is harmful: women are constantly exposed to commercial ideals of beauty and impossibly Photoshopped models, which can be extremely damaging to their body image. One way to combat this over-sexualization is comprehensive sexual education, which teaches young women about healthy body image and that they can combat sexualization. Artist Yolanda Dominguez has come up with another, more unusual…

    Corey
    27 Jan 2012 | 11:04 am
We’re almost a month into a new year (man, time flies), and this year may have started out great … or maybe not. Perhaps there’s been a chronic tension in your life or your marriage for months, and your hope that the new year would some how alter things hasn’t come true. You and your spouse may have reached the level of co-existing for a while together. And when friends or family come into the picture you have to “put on a show,” as if everything’s okay. Only, everything’s not okay. It downright sucks. It may not be to the level of divorce or…
  • Is Your Marriage Too Close?

    Corey
    24 Jan 2012 | 12:37 pm
Post written by Dr. Corey Allan. There’s a popular belief that once a person gets married, everything will be smooth sailing. Romance will naturally occur, your spouse will be your best friend, and there will be plenty of “Hallmark” moments between you. If you’ve been married any length of time you know this simply isn’t true. One of the main problems many couples face in marriage is they create a marriage that’s too close. They strive to capture the illusion of what they thought it would be like in the beginning by getting closer to each other. This…

This happens naturally for whichever parent spends the most time with the kids. In our family, that’s me – I work as a freelance writer from home, so it makes sense that I’m the one guiding them through homework routines and – to make a long…

What were you doing? Who were you with? Do you remember? Now, think about what most impressed you about them at that moment. Maybe she had a beautiful smile.  Maybe he had incredible blue eyes. Maybe it was her laugh. Maybe it was his dance moves. With first impressions, it’s typically something physical that’s first appealing. Now fast-forward just a bit to when you were dating. Lance
    27 Jan 2012 | 9:46 pm
I’ve been doing some experimenting with my relationships recently and one thing I’ve found is that straight up communication isn’t that effective. When I say communication, I mean sitting down and talking face-to-face. Talking is useful and has it’s place, but more is needed. What I’ve found is that something has to happen in the relationship, basically a process that leads to a confrontation. I call this process a change agent. In a recent relationship, I had a girlfriend that was taking my generosity for granted. I used this technique: I froze her out for a…
  • Is Performing the Best Part of Life?

    Lance
    28 Dec 2011 | 3:34 pm
Over the holidays, while watching The Nutcracker live on TV, I had an epiphany. Here it is: Performance and the act of performing is critical to the human experience. What spurred that thought was watching interviews with several of the kids who played major characters in the production. Even at a young age, children are very much aware that they’re on stage, performing, being judged for their performance, and growing as a result of the experience. I look back on my life and recall the most vivid, most memorable experiences are ones where I’m performing, especially at a high…

She’s starting over in the NYC dating scene and frustrated with how fast things move in the dating world. Her complaint is a common one, that sex happens too fast and guys want to get laid on the first date. I’m a big believer in fast sex, before any kind of gf-bf relationshop has been established. There are good reasons for this, which I will address in a followup post. For now, let’s go with the assumption that…

I bought a scarf today. I had seen one like it on someone earlier this week and thought, That looks so warm. It was raining today and I am going to Milwaukee soon but the real reason I bought it wasn't warmth so much as comfort. It's the kind of scarf that I will want to sleep with, and very likely will, the kind I wish I could transform into a blanket or sweater. It's comforting, and that is worth the price alone. It's also big, so even I will be hard pressed to lose it. I was sitting in Housing Works Bookstore Cafe when I started this post (and am super excited about my Best Sex Writing…

In a bizarrely credulous article, the Telegraph has answered the question of what causes war. That’s right! You guessed it…it’s boners. Not economics, resource scarcity, ethnic and racial prejudice, acquisitive and incompetent political leaders, short-sightedness or failure to learn from history. Nope! It’s just plain boners, pure and simple. They’re bad. Here’s how the Telegraph puts it, in an article titled “Male sex drive ‘to blame for world’s conflicts’.” The male sex drive is to blame for most of the world’s…

Resentment comes from seeing yourself as a victim. Effectiveness comes from stepping up and taking responsibility. If you constantly complain that life is unfair, you’ll blind yourself to the best opportunities. Yet by simply accepting that what’s done is done, you’ll find a way to make the most of it. Don’t waste your time arguing and fighting with life. Instead, invest your time and resources in inspiring…

Leftos - Lessons for the Opposite Sex

  • She wants more too

    23 Jan 2012 | 2:33 pm
New Answer - Sounds like she's still interested in you too. I'm with @OohLookasquirrel in that you need to ask her out. From your description it sounds like she's finally moved past her ex and maybe wants to give it a shot. I don't think you've got much to lose. Just go for it!
  • ask her out already!

    16 Jan 2012 | 9:04 am
New Answer - The fact that she's communicating with you right now seems to be saying that she wants to be part of your life. She may be hoping that you'll ask her out. Some girls always expect the guy to make all the moves, and by dangling herself in front of you again, she could be hoping that you'll bite. Or, maybe she just wants to be friends again. Hard to tell what's going on in someone else's brain. If you don't want to be just friends, then you should go ahead and ask her out. If that's what she wanted, everybody's happy. If she says no, then you should be open and tell her that you'd…
  • I'm confused! I need your wise advice.

    15 Jan 2012 | 11:32 pm
New Question - Hey guys, I'm need of some advice, this girl that I was kind of seeing a year ago recently messaged me the other day saying that something she saw reminded her of me. We were never officially boyfriend/girlfriend but we were pretty serious and had strong feelings for each other until she told me that she still hadn't gotten over her ex. So I decided it was best for me to step back. We stopped talking altogether a little while after until she recently sent me a message. I still have really strong feelings for her and think about her a lot, even before she had messaged me. I have…

    13 Jan 2012 | 1:30 am
New Answer - The men involved in dating older ladies, as they are more experienced and more capable of dealing with the relationship run smoothly. Older women are more mature, financial integrity and good lovers. Be yourself. It is a local sex relationship you because she loves you; you provide, its spontaneity, and fun. So, do not even think of yourself as someone you're not. Take it somewhere it is by no means been before; show her that you're different from other men your age. Invite a jazz membership, live performance or a unique restaurant. You can change the theme of the discussion. Ask…

For over a year, I liked the Hot Nerd. A year, you guys! For over half that year, I’d say, I was in love with him. I never quite got enough clarity about how he felt about me. He’d say one thing and do another. I still maintain he did this accidentally. He is a nice guy, he wouldn’t want to confuse or hurt me. But, nice or not, he’s a guy and I guess we just weren’t on the same page. We had a lot of fun, otherwise. We get along so well. We enjoy one another’s company. Friendship was great but those same reasons always made me want more. But I’m not so…

oor Every Mistake A Lingerie Manufacturer Could Make. I can’t even pretend that this was a success. I mean, I knew its form-fitting nature would be a risk with my shape but I didn’t also realize that it was a design disaster. Let’s start with what I don’t hate. The fingerless fishnet gloves. Now, you might be thinking “fingerless gloves are the show-stealer?” and, I kid you not, it’s the truth. They’re simple: a tube with one reinforced end for around the wrist and a small hole on one side for your thumb. The end that slips around your arm/wrist…

I’ve seen the books by Dr. Sadie before. They have cute names like “Ride ‘Em, Cowgirl” and “Tickle His Pickle.” Tickle My Tush is the latest book by Dr. Sadie, published by Tickle Kitty. It’s, as you can guess, all about anal play. What you might not guess is how small this book is! It’s just over 100 pages but the book is both short and narrow, so it’s physically smaller than other educational books. There’s also a lot of white space in the book itself, which is why I was able to read it in only two sittings. The good news is, if…

    16 Jan 2012 | 2:37 am
The Spirit was the vibrator that I wanted the most out of the Leaf line. It’s ergonomic design called to me because I’m a clit vibe type of girl. I wasn’t able to review it directly from BMS but Our Naughty Secrets sent one my way. I figured I’d have a pretty good idea of the piece considering that I’d already used one but, as it turns out, that wasn’t quite the case. My Spirit wasn’t charged when I opened the box so I set it up to charge for a couple hours. Immediately, I made note of how much smaller the Spirit is than I expected. When I plugged the…

  • Nagging – Toxic For Marriages

    Stacey
    27 Jan 2012 | 6:48 pm
What is more common than adultery, potentially as toxic, and considered by experts to be lethal for most marriages? Nagging. No, this isn’t a joke – though comedians for decades have made their wives’ nagging the brunt of many a joke…. When a wife repeatedly bugs her husband about a certain issue, and the husband shuts down and doesn’t deal with the topic at hand – everyone loses: the husband feels badgered (or babied) and the wife feels like her needs are being ignored. Sound familiar? It’s this type of poor communication that can kill a marriage…

Wow. In case you didn’t already get how incredibly fearful and militant the leaders in Iran are, here’s one more tidbit to disgust and disturb you: They are cracking down on Barbie dolls again – they are closing down stores and confiscating poor Barbie. Yes, those beautiful Barbie dolls are a target in Iran again. Our Barbie is seen as a threat to the Muslim culture and she epitomizes everything they hate about Americans. I really don’t believe in judging the morality of others – after all, it’s so subject, isn’t it? And yet, I think I can safely say that Newt Gingrich is a hypocritical, egomaniacal piece of merde with unscrupulous morals. Let’s start with him leaving his first wife while she was undergoing cancer treatment. Did I mention that he proposed to wife #2 before letting wife#1 know that he was going to dump her. Then, he decided that wife#2 wasn’t attractive enough to be a president’s wife and started an affair with the woman who is now wife#3. While boffing…

We need a revolution. When I grew up in the 60’s, young people rebelled against materialism and morality.  We said “Enough!!” and fought back against the establishment – an establishment we regarded as corrupt and clueless.  When it came to a war we thought unjust we chanted, “Hell no, we won’t go!!”  When it came to materialism we said, “We don’t want it!!”, and walked about with no shoes and holes in our jeans.  And when it came to traditional morality, we rejected it and gave ourselves to free sex, drugs and rock and roll.  It had an enduring impact on our…

Thankful? Haven’t we passed that holiday? I know, Thanksgiving was seven or eight weeks ago…the leftovers have vanished along with the attitude of gratitude that was quickly lost in the flurry of Christmas.  Now, here we are at the start of a new year. The presents have been returned, the wrapping has been recycled, and the tree is tucked away in the basement for another year. Many people make resolutions beginning January 1st to improve themselves and their lives.  Lots of us make promises to eat less and exercise more, or to pray and read the bible more and watch TV less. All good…

Yes, it’s that time of the year again…the most wonderful, happy, and magical season of Christmas! At least that’s what the retailers, songs and TV specials all proclaim starting mid-November. Yet for many people, this whole holiday season starting with Thanksgiving and ending with New Years is anything but wonderful or happy. Now, there may be a variety of reasons for this. For some people, it is the first year since a loved one has passed away, which makes for sadness. Others experience the whole season being separated by many miles from their family and friends either because of job…
  • Bad Theology = Bad Marriage

    Mark Gungor
    22 Nov 2011 | 12:45 pm
There is line of thinking that began in American culture during the hippy movement of the 1960s and has continued to grow in popularity until it proliferated even Christianity.  I’m referring to the concept of “unconditional love”.  Over and over we hear people talking about how we need to love others “unconditionally” and how others should love us “unconditionally”. It also has morphed into the idea that God’s love for us is “unconditional”.  What a bunch of horse manure! Nowhere in the bible does it say that love is to be without conditions…in fact, the phrase…

People have all kinds of ideas and notions on whom they are to marry, how they go about finding “the one” to marry, and the list of standards and ideals they have for the one they marry.  Let’s clear up a few things, shall we? The bible doesn’t say anything about waiting for your soul mate to get married. It also doesn’t say anything about God having that one special person just for you…although people will argue with me on that one! What it does say is that we are to get or find a spouse—that means you don’t sit and wait for God drop one into your lap.  Check out my new DVD…

    19 Jan 2012 | 10:54 pm
A while back I got a sample in the mail from Johnson & Johnson. K-Y Touch Massage 2-in-1 is supposed to be for massages and personal lubricant. I don't know how long they've been selling this product, but anyone who visited sex shops in the 80s is probably familiar with Motion Lotion.  When you rub some of the lotion into your skin it gets warm. If you blow on it you get a flash of heat. It's fun. It's just not very eco-friendly. I threw out my bottle of Motion Lotion when a friend looked at the ingredient list and noticed that the formula was very close to that of anti-freeze. The…
  • Tit In Use Causes Comic Book Uproar

    12 Jan 2012 | 2:00 am
I don't pay a lot of attention to the comic book world. I'm a big enough geek without them. Every once in a while something happens in the magical world of comics that makes me shake my head. On Monday, illustrator Dave Dorman complained about the cover of a comic book called Saga. The problem? Breastfeeding. He found it offensive and only there for "shock value." As you might think the backlash started soon after. I came late to the issue and only read about it on a site called Comic Alliance. By the time I went to Dorman's blog he'd taken the post down. I just don't get what's so…

There are just so many jokes... I think this is a fine idea. Sex is about fantasy. If you want to make it with a T'Pol or Seven of Nine or even Slave Leia you should be able too. Sex should also be fun. If you can have a smile or a laugh while you're getting your ya-yas off it's all to the good. The only problem I have with this idea is that the costumes are being designed by Hollywood Madame Heidi…

Introducing the Louis Vuitton Condom. They were designed by Irakli Kiziria as a World AIDS Day product suggestion. The design has since gone viral. The suggested price for each condom is $68. Read more. Is there a market for designer condoms? Probably. Slap a famous name on something and you can sell it for hundreds of times its real value. But would they do any good? Getting people to carry condoms is only half the battle. They have to be used. If some little trendoid insists on designer rubbers and has the money to fork out for them that's all to the good. As long as the product…

  • Toy Review: Pink Inspire with attachments

    Blasian Bytch
    25 Jan 2012 | 6:49 pm
I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much from the Pink Inspire its just so dang tiny. The massager itself is only 7 ½ inches long and a slim 1 ½ inches wide, the double prong attachment adds 2 ½ long and 1 ¼ wide, the three pronged attachment is 3 ¾ inches tall and 4 inches wide. That might sound large but this is a a wand massager its supposed to be super powerful and versatile , they are also usually the size of a toddler’s femur. I didn’t think think there was anyway that science could get all that power in this little toy. Being the woman I am – always looking for new and…

A close friend of mine  linked me to a character study that appeared on the NYTimes.com ,  profiling a 52 year old sex worker in Hunts Point New York.   The  short profile story and video (after the jump)  ,in my opinion, was a rare change of narrative that most are used to when it comes to sex work in America.   Most of the time, there’s a very narrow view of sex work that is mistakenly interchanged with human trafficking  and child abuse.  The narrative usually follows a “normal” white woman who is seduced or captured into sex work and lurred into drug…

BlasianBytch.com is 2 Today!! It’s been a hell of a year.  Sometimes it feels completely unreal how this year has been, it was like my life was a Korean drama, only with a lot more esteemed authors, facials and porn actresses.  At the start of this year I was failed freelancer slumming it on my bro’s broken couch, now 356 days later I’m typing this on the same shitty laptop- but in my own apartment where I sleep on a bed every night, in a room with a door.  That might sound mundane as shit to you but to me its somewhat of a miracle. Revelers from all over the country partied with the birthday girl at the aptly named Happy Ending Lounge in Chinatown and got down to DJ Tony Touch working his magic on the 1 and 2′s. …

I lay no claim to being exceptionally dateable. It can’t be easy to let yourself fall for me, and maybe it’s not even smart. I realize everyone has their own personal red flags, but logically, I must live in much of their overlap. When you read discussions about evolutionary psychology, debates about weight, or even conversations on general attractiveness, someone will always raise the point that human beings are fundamentally attracted to health. This probably seems like a diplomatic, benign way to speak about physical beauty: Can’t we all just agree that we’re…

Then it snaps shut in a low growl without warning, crushing my lungs, chuckling at the idea that humans need air. Either way my chest aches. Either way I’m powerless against the grinning beast. It has no tongue. It’s all teeth. Like a heartbreak with no explanation. Exactly like that. I am all searing thorax. The rest of me is numb. Share/Save

A Very Blessed 2012 to You All! Last night, New Year’s Eve, some dear friends came over and I suggested that before running off to various other parties that beckoned, that we share three things with each other: What one thing were we most grateful for in this past year? What one thing were we willing to let go of in 2012? What were we feeling brave enough to consciously bring into our lives in the upcoming year? I was astounded at the raw, naked honesty everyone expressed in their shares. Tears flowed and everyone was enriched from sharing in the ritual. A little vulnerable, perhaps,…

Q- Why do addicts seem so cavalier about whether the relationship survives or not? He does not seem to care unless he’s being kicked out or I threaten to break up with him. Answer- Addicts who are not yet in recovery mode, or who are in the early phases of recovery, are often not yet able to be reflective and to consider the feelings and emotions of their partner. Addicts often feel more punished by being denied their ‘drug’ by the partner than feel empathy and guilt for their destructive behaviors. It is said that the active addict’s dream is to live a life without…

Q- Why don’t addicts ask us partners questions to better understand what we have been through and what we now currently need from them? They seem to have no interest in anything but themselves. Answer- This seems to be a sad and unfortunate aspect of sex addiction, those addicted tend to have an absence of empathy. And this lack of empathy is essentially one of the main qualities that Recovery helps develop in a recovering addict. What appears to be a common, initial feeling of a sex addict/compulsive (SAC) is a deep, incapacitating shame, which is different than guilt. Having to feel…

Q- Please describe a genuine apology/amends-making. His apologies seem feeble and he does not seem in the least bit sorry that he hurt me, he seems sorry that he got caught. Answer- The amends matter is a complex scenario, since, for one thing, it is often tied to forgiveness. First off, there can be no forgiveness until you are ready to offer that, if ever. Most sex addicts/compulsives (SACs) are expecting immediate forgiveness of their actions to alleviate the shame they feel. And that is not as easy as a “Sorry, but I broke your favorite vase” sort of thing. It is my belief…

No, I didn’t book a package. I paid for my transcontinental flights with airline miles and booked a couple hotels at employee rates, thanks to my mom’s discount (she works for a hotel chain). I also stayed with people during a couple points, when I couldn’t find available rooms. I’ll be honest: I’m not a huge fan of vacation packages. My first trip to Southeast Asia (back in 2008) was planned by a travel agency. I was traveling in a group and there was limited time, so a package made sense then, but if I could do that trip all over again (and one day, I totally will), I would have…

One of the most common health issues affecting our sexuality is prescription medication. Most medications have side effects. When these are minimal or trivial, we ignore them. No single definition of intimacy can satisfy everyone, but here’s one that works for many people: intimacy is the feeling of being known. It’s a feeling that someone else knows your true self, and the trust that there’s a joint commitment to maintaining your connection even when it’s difficult. Intimacy takes many forms: verbal, physical, sexual, spiritual. A relationship is all the more powerful — and intimate — when it features more than one of these forms. 18th January 2012 Settling down in front of my computer on Saturday morning with the taste of his cock still lingering on my tongue and his cum just starting to leak out of my pussy I let out a contented sigh. For what felt like the first time in weeks we had a whole weekend to ourselves, no kids, no social plans, just us and 2 whole days of whatever we felt like doing. I had been woken by a hand in my hair, dragging me down his body and guiding my mouth onto his soft cock. • Why Some Dommes Never Have Reviews Published

    Ms. Justine
    5 Jan 2012 | 7:46 pm
I used to offer discounts to clients who would post reviews of me or allow me to use their letters on my site. Since I had more control over my own site, I wouldn’t always wait for a client to offer a review, but instead ask if I could post a letter that was particularly compelling. All my clients complied as long as I left out personal and identifying details, of course. Nevertheless, as I frequent forums, and Maxfisch in particular, and see how traffic gets directed and how much clients use it to find a Domme, I was often disappointed when I wouldn’t see reviews about my…

  • Profile Mistakes Women Make

    Richard Connery
    26 Jan 2012 | 3:36 pm
We all make mistakes with our profiles when we first start out, it’s a learning curve for all new members and not the end of the world.  The following are some of the most common mistakes that women can avoid making to guarantee a more successful experience.  I’m not suggesting that men don’t have faults in their profiles, far from it, these are just some of the errors commonly attributed to female profiles.Like many other men, I read some women’s profiles and just can’t quite fathom what message they intended to get across.  Your profile is your ‘life line’ to success and…

  • Love Vs. Vocation

    18 Jan 2012 | 8:10 am
“Love and work are the cornerstones of our humanness.”- Sigmund FreudBy this account, I am only half human. I’m kidding. There is plenty of love in my life. Love of family, love of friends, love of animals. But I must say that when I put on one of my favorite love songs, like say, “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, it doesn’t have the same spark as when I have someone specific in mind. But the search for this specific someone is so exhausting, and it’s the first thing I will push to the side for something else. For example, as I was…
